IICRC Continuing Education Credits (CEC) FAQs

Continuing Education Credits are educational hours required by the IICRC to ensure you remain current with industry developments, safety practices, and advanced techniques. Earning these credits helps you stay knowledgeable and competitive in your field. It is also a required process to keep your certifications up to date.

CECs help technicians stay informed about industry changes, comply with safety standards, enhance their professional skills, and maintain their certification, ultimately boosting their career opportunities. It is also a requirement to keep your IICRC certifications up to date.

Certified technicians are required to earn 14 CECs every four years to make sure their certification is updated. If you hold Master or Inspector certifications, you must earn 14 CECs every two years. Always verify your specific CEC requirements directly with the IICRC.

You can earn your CECs by attending any IICRC courses such as:

Additionally, attending industry workshops, conferences, approved online training, or teaching at recognized industry events also earns credits. Each training hour equals one CEC.

Complete your CEC requirements before your certification renewal date. Planning ahead ensures you avoid any disruptions to your certification status.

Once you've completed your education, promptly upload your certificate of completion directly to your IICRC account profile or email your certificates to renewals@iicrcnet.org.

After each class, we send IICRC the official attendance sheet and notify them of the hours each student completed to help ensure your credits are processed promptly. However, the IICRC still recommends that students submit their certificates independently rather than relying solely on instructors or training centers.

To prevent any delays or confusion, we also encourage you to keep your own organized records of all certificates and documents. Taking these extra steps will help make your renewal process smooth and stress-free.

If you don't fulfill your CEC obligations, your certification could be suspended or expire. You might then have to retake exams or complete additional training to regain your certification.

Stay ahead by planning your courses early, spreading out your learning throughout your certification cycle, and regularly checking your CEC status through your IICRC account. Keeping track of your completed classes and submitting your documentation promptly will help ensure your certification stays active without interruption.

Being proactive with your Continuing Education Credits not only keeps your certification valid—it also keeps your skills sharp and your career moving forward.
